CUWCD Sludge Production, Composition, and Uses

Team #2:  BYProducts Solutions
Sponsor: Central Utah Water Conservancy District
Mentor: Dr. Sowby
Team Members: Jordan Christensen, Mitchell Dial, Zach Gallini

CUWCD operates the Don A. Christiansen Regional Water Treatment Plant (DACRWTP), a regional water treatment facility in Orem, Utah. This treatment plant produces a high-quality sludge as a byproduct of the treatment process that could be utilized for agriculture or landscaping uses. Currently the sludge is trucked off site and disposed of at a District facility. The Capstone team should estimate annual sludge production, composition, and possible commercial uses. The desired outcome is a report that would summarize sludge production, sludge content and composition, and possible uses for the sludge. An economic analysis of the costs of the current sludge disposal method as well as possible uses should be included in the report.
