In September 2021 Brigham Young University (BYU) announced a change to their Off-Campus Housing Policy. Beginning Fall 2022 students will no longer be required to live in University approved housing after having completed two-semesters at the University. This change is anticipated to allow students more flexibility in choosing housing and will allow students to live further from the center of campus. It is anticipated that the changes to the Off-Campus Housing Policy will have impacts in terms of traffic and transportation. The purpose of this project will be to complete an “existing conditions” analysis of the parking and traffic on campus that could be used in a future Capstone project to evaluate the impacts of the policy change. This would begin with a literature review on the transportation impacts of similar studies that will be used to identify “key” locations on campus for analysis. Traffic and parking data will then be collected at these key locations to determine how full parking lots are, the traffic volumes entering/exiting these parking lots, and the current levels of service associated with these “key” locations.
